Test
Method
ASTM
D5501 covers the determination of the ethanol content of denatured fuel
ethanol by Gas Chromatography. Ethanol is determined from 93 to 97 mass
% and methanol is determined from 0.1 to 0.6 mass %. ASTM D5501 does
identify and quantify methanol but does not purport to identify all
individual components that make up the denaturant. This test method
provides a method of determining the percentage of ethanol (purity)
of the fuel ethanol that is blended into gasoline.
Gas
Chromatograph
The Gas Chromatography 8610 serial chassis can be configured to perform
and satisfy all of the requirements of either ASTM D5501 or EN 14110
for Ethanol purity and Methanol content. Analysis takes about 25 minutes
and is simple enough for an untrained operator to perform in the lab
or in the field. The included PeakSimple Data System displays the calibrated
results directly without off-line calculations.
